Today, we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. On this historic day, General Emilio Aguinaldo declared the sovereignty of the Filipino people and raised the Philippine flag for the first time in Kawit, Cavite. This marked the end of more than three centuries of Spanish colonial rule and the beginning of a new era for our nation.
